While much of the story continues to concentrate on the Thames east of London Bridge, I have taken our hero down to Hastings and have tried to recreate the look and feel of this ancient town and the folk that lived there at the end of the 18th Century. Another departure is the inclusion of a map of the Port of London and its surroundings as it existed in 1799, before the construction of the first of the major docks in the early 19th Century.
